image003.jpgWhat is Thermography or Thermographic Imaging?

Breast thermography is an adjunctive tool that can be used to screen breast tissue for early signs of disease.  An infrared camera is used to detect changes in termperature on the surface of the breast.  Thermal imaging is based on the principle that pre-cancerous tissue has a higher metabolic activity and increased vascularization (blood vessel activity) than normal, healthy tissue.

Thermography is a non-invasive, safe technique that is used in conjunction with other diagnostics such as ultrasound, mammography and MRI.  It is a painless procedure that does not involve compression of the breast.
