Low Intensity Laser Therapy

The healing power of laser light.

Low Intensity Laser Therapy

Laser therapy has been successfully used around the world for over 25 years, with no reported long-term or irreversible side effects.

What is LLLT?

LLLT (Low level laser therapy) is a non-invasive, drug-free treatment which is used to treat a variety of pain syndromes, chemotherapy related side effects such as mouth sores and neuropathy. It can also aid in the healing of injuries, surgical wounds and fractures. It is a completely painless therapy.

In my career, I have not seen many therapies be effective for treating one of the most difficult to treat symptoms of chemotherapy- neuropathy (related to the platinum and taxane families of chemotherapy). Laser therapy is the sole treatment that has proven itself effective in treating this debilitating side effect.

How Does Laser Light Work?

Low level lasers emit non-thermal photons of light. This light is transmitted through the skin’s various layers (the dermis, epidermis and the subcutaneous tissue). When low level laser light waves penetrate the skin, there is an anti-inflammatory immune response that takes place.

What to Expect During a Laser Therapy Treatment Session?

Just sit back and relax! There is no pain caused by the treatment, and no shock or heat sensation.

3-5% of patients undergoing light therapy have reported a slight tingling or tapping in a nerve or along a nerve pathway. Treatment times last from 2-20 minutes/session.

Most patients (approximately 75-80%) will notice immediate improvement, however, please note that if you have a chronic or severe symptom, it will take longer to respond to any treatment including laser therapy. The majority of conditions treated will take anywhere from 4-5 or 10-18 treatments to notice a substantial improvement.
